“Hello! My name is Ana Sequeira. I am the mother of 2 beautiful and, thankfully healthy children. I am reaching out to share a personal story in the hope of raising awareness among families everywhere.
On April 27th, my 3 year old son had an accident. Doctors claim that my son being alive as a result of this accident is truly a miracle. On this day, we were wrapping up an outing and chatting with family members in a parking lot. One of the family members engaged in the traditional game of «throwing» children into the air and catching them. This was done several times until I heard a very loud sound. The noise instantly turned into multiple people screaming and I ran to find my husband lifting our son from the floor. My son had fallen nine feet from the air and crashed his forehead into the asphalt floor.
We rushed him into the hospital, filled with an indescribable fear and uncertainty about his fate. He was not fully conscious during the time.
After running tests, the diagnosis resulted in two brain hemorrhages, two brain hematomas and a contusion. He remained in the ICU for 3 days, followed by 5 days of hospitalization having experienced 2 seizures during that time. Thankfully, my son has had the best of all scenarios for his recovery. He will be able to live and enjoy his childhood as a healthy and active kid. However, this is not often the case with severe head injuries of young children. With this in mind, l implore all parents, family members, and friends to never again engage in such risky play with children, especially if they are not your own.
I would love to have my story out there in your account. My only wish is to spare other families from enduring the nightmare we’ve lived through. Let’s work together to protect our children and prevent such tragedies from happening elsewhere.”

El 27 de abril, mi hijo de 3 años tuvo un accidente. Los médicos afirman que el hecho de que mi hijo esté vivo es un verdadero milagro. Ese día, estábamos terminando una excursión y charlando con miembros de la familia en un estacionamiento. Uno de los miembros de la familia practicaba el tradicional juego de «lanzar» a los niños al aire y atraparlos. Se hizo varias veces hasta que escuché un sonido muy fuerte. El ruido instantáneamente se convirtió en gritos de varias personas y corrí para encontrar a mi esposo levantando a nuestro hijo del suelo. Mi hijo había caído tres metros del aire y se había estrellado la frente contra el asfalto.
Lo llevamos de urgencia al hospital, llenos de un miedo e incertidumbre indescriptibles. No estuvo completamente consciente durante ese tiempo.
Después de realizarle pruebas, el diagnóstico arrojó dos hemorragias cerebrales, dos hematomas cerebrales y una contusión. Permaneció en la UCI durante 3 días, seguidos de 5 días de hospitalización y tuvo 2 convulsiones durante ese tiempo. Afortunadamente, mi hijo ha tenido el mejor de todos los escenarios para su recuperación. Podrá vivir y disfrutar su infancia como un niño sano y activo. Sin embargo, esto no suele ser el caso de las lesiones graves en la cabeza. Con esto en mente, imploro a todos los padres, familiares y amigos que nunca más participen en este juego tan riesgosos con niños, especialmente si no son sus hijos.
